On June 14th<\/sup>\u00a02018 Rector Kainz welcomes an illustrious round of experts for buildings and energy in TU Graz\u2019 Aula. The keynote lecture is held by Werner Sobek. An honorary doctor of TU Graz and a former member of its research council, Sobek is an internationally renowned pioneer in the field of sustainable building. With his research at the University of Stuttgart as well as with his engineering firm he has for many years led the way in re-thinking resource efficiency in construction and has developed many exemplary prototypes for sustainable architecture.<\/p>\n

Buildings are responsible for over 40% of energy consumption worldwide. Global warming, decline of existing energy resources, exponential population growth, increasing geopolitical instabilities which are often directly or indirectly linked with the uncertainty of the future energy supply \u2013 all of these trends make it very clear that building and architecture play a vital role in the debate about the sustainable development of our society.<\/p>\n

Besides Werner Sobek, Thomas Fleckl from the Austrian Institute of Technology, Werner Prutsch from the city of Graz, Brian Cody from the Institute of Buildings and Energy and Roger Riewe from the Institute of Architecture Technology will be panelists at the Buildings and Energy Day. They will discuss the current state and future trends in research and practice. Urs Hirschberg will be the moderator.<\/p>\n

The event also features an exhibition of posters about ongoing research projects by members of the field of expertise sustainable systems, which deal with this topic in a broader sense.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
