architecture and new media

Computer based new possibilities in architecture and design are expanding our discipline. Architects need to take on these enhanced challenges and possibilities, to make use of them. There are four main areas where these take place:

  1. Computer as Tool: A large number of simulation-, planning- und designtools are enabling new ways to design.
  2. Computer as Media: The networked world is opening up new forms of collaboration and collective creativity.
  3. Computer as Part of Construction: Digital fabrication techniques, (CAD/CAM, Rapid Prototyping, Bauroboter etc.) are expanding the formal and constructive repertoire.
  4. Computer as Part of Architecture: Sensors, Actuators, digital controls und interactive elements are more and more becoming part of our built environment.

In the Privatissimum Architecture and New Media projects for Doctoral theses are individually discussed, in which these new possibilities are dealt with theoretically and/or practically.

Potential and relevance of information technology and new media in architectural theory and practice. In depth study of this topic with rereference to concrete scientific approaches and proposals.

Ability to work scientifically and to conduct independent theoretical and practical research in the field of architecture and new media.
