Weissenböck Renate

Renate Weissenböck is an architect with extensive experience in design and realization of complex architecture projects. In parallel, she is researching and teaching in academia. Her work focusses on conceptual, experimental and future-oriented design. In her research, she explores the role of different digital media in the design process, such as industrial robots and Augmented Reality, working in the tension field between human, craft and machine.

She holds a Master of Architecture from the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna (Mag.arch.), a Master in Advanced Architectural Design from Columbia University New York (M.S.), and a PhD from Graz University of Technology (Dr.techn. with distinction). Renate has been working with internationally recognized architecture firms, including Asymptote Architecture and Coop Himmelb(l)au. She has been teaching and researching at Graz University of Technology, Vienna University of Technology, University of Innsbruck, Art University Linz and University of Applied Sciences in Munich, as well as at University of Miami and Kennesaw State University in the U.S. She has exhibited, published and presented her work and research in Europe, Asia, Australia, the U.S. and Canada. Renate was awarded the Faculty Prize of the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts and a Fulbright Grant, as well as a postgraduate-scholarship and a research-grant from the Austrian Federal Ministry.

Renate Weissenböck worked as an assistant professor and university lecturer at the Institute of Architecture and Media from 2013 to 2016, and as a PhD researcher until 2020. After completing her doctorate, she is working again as a university lecturer at the Institute of Architecture and Media.
